Danish Crafts

"Taking a dozen of the countries finest artists and designers MINDCRAFT09 showcases the skill and the thinking behind a new wave of Danish craft and design. The makers featured in this exhibition are hugely individual but have all embraced traditional craft techniques while at the same time using their skill as a platform to ask questions about the way we see both ourselves and the world around us.

After a period in which design and manufacture became almost completely separated, consumers are once again becoming interested in the idea of buying products with sense of providence. They want to know how things are actually made, and as a result craft and design are working more closely than ever."

"At a time when it's increasingly difficult to decipher the boundaries between craft and design, it makes perfect sense for Danish Crafts to once again stage a major exhibition during Milan's Salone Internazionale del Mobile.

We believe there's been a subtle cultural shift in our country that's highlighted in this new show. Where once craft was purely a question of technique, increasingly work from some of our best makers has become more conceptual. In other words it has moved from HANDCRAFT to MINDCRAFT. Working in concert with fine aer, design and architecture, an up-and-coming generation of makers are not only skilled technicians but also have something genuinely important to say.
