Things Journal

Things journal is a "forum for the free discussion of objects, their histories and meanings."

The Spring 2004 editorial explains that,

"A minute but important change in the appearance of Things is in the logo. Back in 1994, we first encountered many of the things that excited our curiosity in museum cases, and part of our project was, metaphorically speaking, to open the box, and follow the object as it escaped back into the world at large...Things and its things are out of the box" (Journal 2004)

In the Summer 2001 issue Dan Smith writes about the Pitt Rivers Museum in Oxford.

"There are many drawers that can be opened, revealing an intimate encounter material that exists in limbo between display and storage."

"Throughout the museum, objects that appear both fascinatingly exotic, yet often strangely familiar, are grouped together in a manner that itself represents an unfamiliar system of thought."

"Clustered together by commonalities of type of form, of use, family groups of artefacts can be found in vitrines that appear to constitute individual departments."
