Crafting Beauty

I visited the exhibition Crafting Beauty, celebrating the last 50 years of Japanese craft which was on at the British Museum from July to October 2007.

It was a beautiful exhibition but what really struck me was that the Japanese government has labelled many of the artists as 'Living National Treasures' as part of the Law for the Protection of Cultural Properties. This meant that they were recognised as possessing 'intangible cultural properties' that needed to be protected and passed on.

I would like to research this further and collect some images of the work.
